In July, 1962, China's Red Army started their propaganda that Chinese and Indians are brothers (Hindi-Chini bhai bhai) and at the same time threatened dire consequences if the Indian soldiers did not withdraw from the disputed land near Ladakh in Northeastern India. Ram Singh, Ram Swarup, Major Ranjit Singh, Major Pratap Singh, Captain Bahadur Singh, and his dad Brigadier Singh are amongst the many soldiers that have been deployed to protect India's border with strict instructions that the first shot must come from the Chinese. Bahadur is in love with a Ladakhi/Kashmiri belle by the name of Angmo and has just secured his mother's blessings and permission to marry her. It is at this time that the Chinese launch their attack on all Indian positions and camp. The Indian army soldiers must fight to keep their borders safe, knowing fully well that they may not survive to tell this tale to their loved ones. A platoon of Indian soldiers encounters harsh realities while fighting in the Sino-Indian War of 1962. After nearly 50 years, it remains the best war movie made in India. The movie highlights the plight of the Indian 'jawans' (soliders) during the 1962 conflict. Due to bungling by politicians and top military brass, the army was ill-equipped for high-altitude warfare (at 5000 meters above the sea level). Despite heavy odds, several pockets of resistance helped in bringing out a ceasefire, none more heroic than the battle of Rezang-La. Although this movie does not directly portray this battle, shades of this is evident.<br/><br/>The heart-rending scream from the leading actress (Priya Rajvansh) at the end of the movie still gives one the chills. The songs are forever etched in ones mind as is the rugged beauty of Ladakh in beautiful black and white. Haqeeqat was based on true incident. It was loosely based on the fierce battle fought in Rezang la by charlie battalion lead by major shaitan singh. Most of the soldiers of charlie battalion belongs to Rewari village & of yadav community. It was a great battle fought by this battalion who was totally outnumbered by Chinese army. The battle was so fierce that it was fought Benoite to Benoite & hand to hand combat , this too in the height of 14000 feet. The Indian battalion fought valiantly & kept control of Rezang la. Barring three or four soldiers everybody died including batallian commander shaitan singh. The movie was so realistic that it captured all the nonsense of war. Beautifully photographed with one of the best music this is not only one of the best war movie ever made in India & can be compared to any international movie. I will keep this movie in the League of All quiet at the western front. Chetan Anand the director should be remembered for making this absolute realistic War movie.
